Governor of St.Petersburg
Georgy Poltavchenko was born on 23 February 1953 in the family of a naval officer in Baku.
1976 - graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Aerospace Instrumentation (aerospace medical equipment engineer).
1976 - engineer at the defence plant NPO “Leninets”.
1978 - instructor of the Nevsky District Komsomol Committee.
1979 – 1994 - served in the KGB (Head of the Vyborg Town UKGB Division for Leningrad Region and St .Petersburg).
1994-1999 - Head of the Federal Tax Police Service Directorate for St. Petersburg, Lieutenant-General of Tax Police.
1999-2000 - Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in Leningrad Region.
2000-2011 - Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Central Federal District.
August 31st, 2011 - confirmed in the position of the Governor of St. Petersburg.
June 5th, 2014 - appointed Acting Governor of St.Petersburg.
September 24, 2014 - entered a position of the Governor of St. Petersburg.
Awarded with the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, 4th class (2003), the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, 3rd class (2008), the Order of Alexander Nevsky (2013) and other government awards.
Married with a son.
